We Believe Ethically Sourced Hardwood Is For Life...

It’s important to note that there is a significant difference between the timber imported by our members and other hardwood available in New Zealand.

Some of the hardwood imported into New Zealand is contributing to deforestation and exploitation of the people who live there.

We believe we should protect them.

Global responsibility

What Does 'Ethical' Actually Mean?

‘Ethical’ means wood products have been sourced and harvested in a sustainable and responsible manner, without causing harm to the environment, wildlife, or local communities

When you opt for ethical hardwood, you are making a choice that promotes a sustainable existence for the people as well as the forest and every other aspect of the lifecycle from the initial source of the wood to the final product.

Global Certification

How Do I Choose Certified Hardwood?

When you purchase hardwood timber, make sure it has FSC® and PEFC certifications. We will show you what to look for.

Our Philosophy

As part of our philosophy, we firmly believe that every individual has a responsibility to choose products and services that contribute positively to the social, environmental, and economic well-being of the planet. We recognize the impact of our actions on the environment, and we strive to make responsible choices that prioritize sustainability, ethical business practices, and the well-being of local communities.

Our

Vision

To take a leading role in advocating for the use of ethically sourced and sustainable hardwood timber in New Zealand. While we estimate that 70-75% of hardwood imports are currently ethically sourced, we recognize that there is still more work to be done.

Our

Mission

To empower and educate architects, builders, landscape architects, and consumers about the benefits of ethical hardwood.

Our goal is to promote the use of ethical hardwood as the optimal choice for both the project at hand and the health of the planet.

Our

Goal

To achieve 100% ethically sourced and sustainable hardwood imports in New Zealand. By striving towards this objective, we aspire to set a standard that will inspire other countries to follow suit.

Our members and stakeholders

Committed To Global Sustainability

Our stakeholders include Members, Suppliers, Auditors, Industry Associations, the NZ Government, and NGOs. We are all committed to providing a sustainable future for our industry, the forest communities, and the wildlife that live there.
