Choosing Certified Ethical Hardwood

If the hardwood timber is not certified by FSC or PEFC, it has not met the global standards criteria set by the internationally recognised hardwood governing bodies.

We want to make it easy for architects, builders, landscape architects and consumers to be informed about why ethical hardwood is the best choice for their projects - as well as the planet.

When timber is fully certified, it means that environmental, social, cultural and economic standards have been met.

What To Look For

When purchasing hardwood for your project, make sure you ask to see these labels so you can have confidence they have been ethically sourced and sustainable.

Look for the FSC labels

FSC labels can be found on millions of products around the world – from toilet rolls to your favourite book, to that milk carton in your fridge, and other food products.

What does the label mean? Simply put: by choosing products with FSC labels, you’re helping to take care of the world’s forests.

Look for the PEFC label

You can find the PEFC label on a huge range of products, from tissues, toilet paper and notebooks, to wooden flooring, bookshelves and your garden shed.

And of course, don’t forget the packaging: tea bags, cereal, rice, and so much more, are all available in PEFC-certified packaging.
